About GROW

Last updated: 5 August 2026

GROW is a UK gardening app that turns your real garden into a living 3D world, with an AI companion called Sprout who knows your plants and helps you look after them. Alongside the app we publish free gardening guides written for UK growing conditions. This page explains who is behind all of it.

Why we built GROW

For years I was unwell without really knowing why. It eventually turned out to be food intolerances — and once I understood that, I started paying much closer attention to what was actually in the food I was eating. I wanted fewer ultra-processed ingredients and fewer unnecessary chemicals, and the most reliable way I found to know what's in my food was to grow it myself.

Somewhere along the way, most of us stopped knowing how to do that. We've handed that knowledge over, and I think it's worth taking back. But starting from scratch is genuinely overwhelming — the advice is scattered and contradictory, the timings are confusing, and almost everything you read quietly assumes you already know what you're doing.

GROW is what I wished I'd had at the beginning: something that understands your particular garden, tells you what to do this week, and makes the first year feel achievable instead of daunting. If it gets one more person growing something they can eat, it's done its job.

Who's behind it

GROW is built by Sophie Sparkes, its founder. I'm not a professional horticulturist — I came to this as someone who needed to know exactly what was in her food and had to learn to grow it from a standing start. Everything we publish is written from that perspective: for people beginning where I began, not for people who already know the jargon.

GROW is built and operated by The Visionary Platform LTD, a company registered in England & Wales.

How we write our gardening guides

Our guides are written for UK gardeners specifically — UK sowing windows, UK frost dates, UK growing conditions. Generic advice written for a different climate is worse than no advice, so we don't publish it.

Being straight about the AI

GROW uses AI heavily — Sprout, the plant and soil scanners, and Garden Studio all rely on it. AI can be confidently wrong, particularly when identifying plants or diagnosing problems from a photo. We set out exactly what it can and can't do, and where to be careful, in our AI Usage Policy. We would rather tell you the limits up front than have you lose a plant to a bad guess.
